Supplier Spotlight | Harpist Soraya Vermeulen

We’ve known Soraya Vermeulen since the very beginning of Buckinghams when she attended our first wedding fair – and we’ve been in love with her ever since. She is one of the nicest people you will ever meet and a superb performer who can often been seen at the Royal Albert Hall having played for HM The Queen on several occasions. But it’s her beautiful nature, absolute professionalism and fun, friendly spirit that made us award Soraya with our BeLoved Wedding Supplier status – the very best of the best we are happy to recommend. We know if you meet her you’ll love her too so I’m really pleased to share with you her Supplier Spotlight.

Tell us when and why you started your business?
I started playing the harp aged 7 and never looked back…

What do you love least about what you do?
Loading and unloading the harp in the rain. It’s the worst!

What do you love most about what you do?
It’s wonderfully varied! I meet lots of lovely people, play in the most gorgeous and unusual venues and above all, I am a musician because I love music and sharing it with others! This really gives a high like no other!

What preparation do you have to do before a wedding?
On the day: Eat a big breakfast, make-up, hair, load the harp & equipment into the car, dress, drive to the venue, tune all of the harp strings & warm up.

How far will you travel to a wedding?
All across the UK and Europe.

How much contact do you have with a couple before their wedding day?
As much as they both would like! They can visit me at my home in Leicestershire, call, or email to choose their music, to answer any of their questions and concerns or even just to chat about their wedding! I do love to chat!

How do you start your day when you’re working a wedding?
With a big breakfast!

What makes your job a bit easier at a wedding?
The less stairs the better…!!

What’s your price range?
Prices start from £250.

How do couples pay you?
A deposit of half of the chosen package fee to reserve the date, with the final balance being due one month before the Big Day!

What’s your favourite memory from a wedding?
After a break I came back to my harp, only to find an elderly gentleman attempting to play it and singing a song he had entitled “Me and My Parrot”… I think he might have enjoyed too much of the champagne!

If you could work a celebrity wedding who’s would it be?
Graham Norton..Imagine the fun!
