Anyone who knows Philippa Wells, owner and florist at Flowers by Philippa in Leicestershire, knows that within five minutes of meeting up you’ll be giggling uncontrollably about something. If ever Pip’s name comes up in conversation there’s a resounding ‘she’s so much fun’ from anyone who has worked with her, bought flowers from her or even simply exhibited with her at one of our wedding fairs. She is, without doubt, a gorgeous person to have in your life. But enough gushing about this horse jumping, side-saddling, country loving, flower mad dynamo. If we carry on it will all go to her head and the simple truth is that Pip is a fabulous florist; well respected by her peers and loved by her brides.
Tucked away in her Seagrave flower studio, surrounded by open fields and and accompanied by her loyal assistant Dolly (who will insist on being fussed before any mention of flowers is permitted) Philippa works away at her wedding flowers for couples tying the knot in Leicestershire and surrounding counties. She is highly knowledgeable on all things floral and can support even the most confused bride when it comes to deciding which flowers to opt for. I mean for heaven’s sake… where does a girl start?! I have known her since she attended our first ever wedding fair (crikey, that was over five years ago!) and not only is she one of my go-to florists for my personal flowers I am pleased to now call her my ‘friend’. Tell us something about your background
I’m a farmers daughter brought up around dogs, horses and lots of fresh air!
How did you get into this type of business?
My sister actually, she’d seen an advert for a florist and the rest as you say is history! That was 16 years ago!
Tell us when and why you started your business?
February 2013. I’d worked in a florist shop up until then. I’d be working away on someone’s wedding flowers at the back of the shop having never even meet the bride! I love what I do and I wanted to enjoy the journey from the first consultation to actually setting up on the wedding day so I decided to set up my own business.

Seeing all the flowers set up at a wedding. It gets me every time
Does the responsibility of your job/business ever scare you?
Not really, I try and be uber organised and always have a contingency plan
What preparation do you have to do before a wedding?
Conditioning of the flowers is key, giving them a good drink of water before arranging with them is paramount to well behaved and non-droopy florals! Having the walk in fridge is also hugely helpful!
How do you start your day when you’re working a wedding?

What makes your job a bit easier at a wedding?
Preparation really, knowing where everything needs to go is a real bonus especially with a tight time frame.
What’s your price range?
This is tricky, it depends on which flowers they choose and what they’d like. That’s why I offer complimentary consultations.
How do couples pay you?
Couples initially pay a deposit with them paying the outstanding balance two weeks before the wedding, they can pay via card or BACS.
Do you have a cancellation policy?
There is a cancellation policy which is detailed on our T&C form, I send that out, give couples time to read through then they send it back to me signed and dated – easy peasy!
