RUNWAY | ‘Le Jardin’ Ian Stuart 2018 Bridal Collection

RUNWAY | ‘Le Jardin’ Ian Stuart 2018 Bridal Collection

‘Le Jardin!’ A celebration of nature by the world’s most inspiring artist.

Ian Stuart creates a style of gown that cannot be found in any other bridal wear label. His couture draping techniques, use of colour, texture, unusual appliques, tonal embroideries and stunning laces create an aesthetic that is both unconventional and undeniably beautiful.

For his 2018 Collection, Ian has focused on capturing themes of nature within his designs, weaving together beautiful butterflies, multi-coloured flowers, Japanese cherry blossom lace, scattered petals, waterfall textures and cascading roses.  This collection is a reflection of the perfect beauty found within the natural world.

Also celebrating the artistic talents of man, Ian has studied the techniques of the traditional Japanese kimono and obi, mixing fabrics and wrapping them around the body, creating a delicately textured look that is fresh, exciting and extremely flattering.  Ever inspired by his favourite era, Ian has paid particular attention to the dramatic draping of 1950’s designer Charles James and reimagined his heavenly style for the modern bride.

‘I am not tied to trends, only beauty’ is Ian’s heartfelt message; designing for that breath-taking moment when a bride is first laid eyes upon and not for the latest fashion trend. ‘We are certain that ‘Le Jardin’ will take your breath away, and remind you what it’s like to fall in love with a wedding dress.’

Holly’s Barn Wedding with wedding dress from Shade Bridal

Holly’s Barn Wedding With Wedding Dress From Shade Bridal

Real Bride at Hazel Gap Barn

Our bride Holly married Nick at the lovely Hazel Gap Barn in Nottinghamshire. They had quite a blustery day and had a laugh in the wind, with everything from Holly’s veil to confetti flying all around them!

Holly wore an under-stated ivory dress with no ‘bling’. Her veil and floral crown added to a lovely romantic look.

Like lots of our brides, Holly wanted a romantic dress that was light and easy to wear. Because we specialise in soft silks and French laces we were able to give Holly the dress she wanted from the start of her searching. Her dress was designed by Linea Raffaelli, a Belgian design house, and she found it on our sale rail!

Business Profile

Tell us something about your background
Baroque Couture was born out of the desire to use my creativity to the full. The only way to accomplish that was to work for myself. I worked from a studio for a while and eventually I opened the shop in August 2002. While I do advertise and exhibit at wedding fairs many of my clients come from word of mouth. The average price of my gowns is £3000.00 but each one is individually designed for the bride, tailored to her every wish.

It’s a great honour when a bride comes to me to create her special dress, probably the most important dress she will ever wear, and I still get such a thrill as we sit down and begin to talk. We usually start with pots of tea, strawberries and chocolate, then we open the ‘Magic Box’ full of beautiful fabrics and laces. It’s important to me that I get a real feel for the bride to enable me to capture not only her vision but also a little of her unique personality to weave into the design of her dress. It’s an exciting and fun experience to be part of the creating process, and so it should be, whether her dress is an elegant classic design or something more avant-garde. Once the design is sketched I then make up a toile from her measurements. This allows me to perfect the pattern before I move on to cutting into the chosen fabrics. It’s also great fun for the bride to see the process as her dress emerges.

Does the responsibility of your job/business ever scare you?
No. I’m too excited to be scared. Seriously though, if you know your job well challenges are fun.

How far will you travel to a wedding?
The farthest so far has been Kenya. It was a beach wedding looking out over the Indian ocean.

How much contact do you have with a couple before their wedding day?
It rather depends on the bride and her mother, I like to get to know them well so that they feel very comfortable with me.

What’s your price range?
£2500/ £5000

How do couples pay you?
I take a non-returnable design payment to secure their place in the year as I can only do so many gowns and sadly I have to turn people away. The remainder can be paid in two payments before the wedding.

Do you have a cancellation policy for couples’ peace of mind?
Yes, there is a cooling off period written into my terms and conditions.

What’s your favourite memory from a wedding?
Watching the couple saying their vows in a beautiful garden with the Indian ocean behind them, the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks and the photographer so caught up with the moment nearly falling into the sea!

If you could work a celebrity wedding whose would it be?
All of my brides are celebrities to me. I have worked celebrity weddings and they are still just two people in love with the same hopes and fears as the rest of us.

Interior design

What advice do you have for brides looking to find a supplier in your category?
It’s one of the most important decisions you will make for the wedding finding the right person to make your dress is vital, choose someone you feel comfortable with and who really listens to you.

…and the bride wore her great-grandmother’s wedding veil

…and The Bride Wore Her Great-grandmother’s Wedding Veil

Rosy & Tom’s Nottingham City Wedding

Our bride Rosy was married last Saturday to Tom in the heart of Nottingham. She chose our lovely Eleanor dress from the French Collection, a dreamy lace and silk tulle gown with no ‘bling’ in champagne and ivory. It was the perfect match to her veil, which was the starting point for her dress choosing last year.

Her veil was very special. Made from Nottingham lace, her great grandmother had first worn it in 1935. Rosy’s grandmother then wore it at her wedding, followed by Rosy’s mum and then, finally, Rosy herself! And they were all married at the stunning St Mary’s Church in the Lace Market.

After the ceremony the bride and groom strolled through the city bathed in sunshine to reach the historic Nottingham City council building in Market Square for their reception. They were applauded by passers-by as they went!

RUNWAY | Jenny Packham 2018 Bridal Collection

RUNWAY | Jenny Packham 2018 Bridal Collection

“…. a collection inspired by a circus belle.”

I’d be lying if I said my heart doesn’t do a little skippy dance every time I’m about to publish the latest bridal collection from Jenny Packham but I damn near had a heart attack when I saw the jaw-dropping ‘Clara’ pop up in my email. I WANT THIS DRESS and I’m so happy to see a redhead model it because redders like me are always being told we can’t wear red when we so flipping can. Just check out those ruby red sequins and to-die-for feathers. If you’re bold enough to own the aisle and strut towards ‘I do’ or you’re looking for a rocking dress to nail your first dance you will definitely, beyond all reasonable doubt, have guests falling to their knees for mercy with this little number.

But the heart palpitations don’t stop there. Demure or sheer, boho maiden or city chick the collection is heavy on embellishment in the classic Packham style and there’s a look to suit every mood swing including trousers and ‘do it your way’ separates for brides who want to mix and match to their own beat.

Inspiration for the collection came from the novel ‘The Falling’ which tells the story of journalist Mark Swabey’s fatal attraction to circus acrobat Clara the Swallow.

“The character of Clara; her exotic beauty, her courage and her love of freedom, inspired this season’s collection. Paying homage to an otherworldly romance, celestial trailing chiffon, flock tulle ruffles, bonded floral lace and oversized satin bows are juxtaposed with tailored cropped jackets, embellished bodies and sculptured corsetry. Majestic ostrich feathers, voluminous ballerina skirts and high octane scarlet hues add theatrical drama to a collection inspired by a circus belle.”

Jenny Packham’s 2018 Bridal Collection is truly heart stopping and I challenge you not to find a dress to fall in love with.
